We went from Homeworld, a harsh, metallic, super-futuristic place devoid of organic life, to Mask Island, a lush, tropical island full of many kinds of life.
Also, we went from Homeworld, a place where Steven is powerless, forced to be someone he’s not, and imprisoned, to Mask Island, a place Steven (unintentionally) populated with his magic powers, full of being of his creation who respect and sometimes even worship him.
I think I know why they chose now to have the watermelons come back.
Y'all gotta admit it’s kind of ironic that an episode showing how two different sides were able to settle their differences and find peace actually created a division in the fandom over whether the episode was good or not
